The meeting theme, organised by Jorgen Johnson of the WRc, was “Safety in numbers – can technology provide intake protection?”
The highlights of the days were fascinating presentations from Leo Carswell of the WRC, Robin Lennox of South West Water and Jo Matthews of Aberystwyth University. Leo focused on an overview of why intake protection is needed and the value of data. Robin presented a very practical “hands-on” guide to how to obtain reliable numbers. His presentation focused on the difficulties faced utilizing on line monitor to measure water quality and the solution he developed for use within South West Water. Jo Matthews focused on the impact on water quality of events in the catchment area.
The three presentations taken as a whole gave an excellent overview of an area that will become ever more important.
For Garry Tabor and Mike there was a poignant note to the day as it was the last time they would meet Robin Lennox in a professional capacity. As mentioned elsewhere Robin retires on January 30th after decades of work in instrumentation and control in the water industry.
